With the onset of winter, please remember to park in your driveways if there is a prediction of snow.  This allows for the plow to make it down the street without incident, allows for the street to be plowed curb to curb, avoids possible damage to your vehicle, and prevent your vehicle from being snowed in!

Be sure to read how to protect your home and family against break-ins.  Top ten common sense tips are located under the Police Department tab on the left hand side.  Check it out and protect yourself!

Storm Water Issues

The Village has begun the process of correcting storm water issues that currently exist.  The Sterling Company, an engineering firm, has been hired to begin surveying and developing preliminary plans to begin the long process of correction.

The engineering studies are being paid for through Community Development Block Grants.  The actual construction will be paid for using the 1/2 cent storm water sales tax, which was voted on in November 2003.  No money from the General Fund will be used for these projects.

AMEREN ISSUES WARNING ON DANGERS OF COPPER THEFT

As global price of copper and other metals remains high, thieves are risking their lives and the lives of innocent people to steal materials that contain copper throughout the Ameren utilities service territory.

These thieves are placing more than themselves in harm's way.  Copper thefts can cause extensive power outages and fires that may injure or even kill innocent people.  Not only have thieves stolen copper wire from Ameren facilities, but they have targeted copper wire and pipes at businesses, private homes and apartments.

For more information on this topic, please click on the

WHAT'S NEW tab on the left hand side of this web page.

. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Village Hall.

ATTENTION!!!

BE CAREFUL WHO YOU ARE TALKING TO....

We have had several reports that a security company is going door-to-door selling security systems.

ANYONE going door-to-door in the Village of Marlborough is required to have a license from the Village and a picture ID.  A permit from St. Louis County does not count.  The Village license is printed on Village letterhead with a raised seal.  The Village runs a background check on any door-to-door peddler applicant.

This particular peddler is asking specific questions about your home and ownership.

If any peddler comes to your door and does not produce a license and ID, please call the non-emergency police number -

314-889-2341 or if you feel threatened in anyway call

9-1-1!

(Also, see article below regarding similar complaints)

INVEST IN A SPARE CAR KEY!

Our police are urging residents to purchase a spare key for their cars.  Why...for those cold winter or those hot and unbearable humid days when you cannot face getting into a freezing or hot car.  You want it warm and toasty or cool and comfy for that ride to work.  So, you warm or cool off the car.  If you decide to adjust the temperature for your ride...LOCK IT UP!

The cost of a spare key is considerably less than the cost of a stolen car.

Crime is down in the 3rd Precinct by 8% for 2011.

HOWEVER, police are reporting that daylight break-ins continue.  While none has occurred in the Village, please ask everyone to be aware of the fact.  If you are working in your yard, close your doors and garages.  That way if you walk away, no one can just stroll into your home.  Be sure to secure your home, cars, and garage.

VACATION WATCH

As part the partnership between the residents of the Village and the St. Louis County Police, we offer a Vacation Watch program where the police officers check your home regularly while you are away.  The next time you are leaving town for a while and would like to participate in this program, please give us a call the 3rd Precinct at #314.615.4266

Storm Water drains to the streams!  Please follow these simple guidelines to aid in the prevention of water polluting:

1) BAG YARD WASTE!  Do not sweep leaves and yard debris in the gutter.  This is an EPA violation.

2) DO NOT DUMP CHEMICALS INTO SEWER OR GUTTERS.  Check this website for chemical collection areas.

3) PICK UP, BAG, AND THROW AWAY YOUR PET'S WASTE.  Do not put the pet waste in a sewer inlet.

RECYCLING INCREASES!

Since the distribution of the recycling carts last November 2009, the Village has diverted 2.50 tons of solid waste from landfills to recyclilng!

Keep up the good work and RECYCLE MORE!  It is so easy.  Be sure to read the section on recycling on the website for more ideas of what to recycle.

RESIDENTS, PROPERTY OWNERS, & BUSINESS OWNERS,

As the Village continues efforts to improve the overall community image, your help is needed!  Here are a few tips on what you can do to help clean up our neighborhood.

1)   Keep you lawn mowed and property clean and free of debris.  Keep the weeds along your fence line in control.

2)   Cut down dead trees and /or limbs.  Trim bushes as needed.

3)   In order to help with mosquito control, dispose of items in your yard that could hold water, including old tires and empty containers.

4)   Do NOT sweep your grass clippings into the street.  This is an EPA violation, as well as a Village ordinance violation.

5)   Don’t put your trash out too early.  Remove the containers as soon as possible after the trash is picked up.

6)   Remove derelict vehicles from your property and the street.

7)   Please do not use your open carport as a storage shed.

8)   Remove peeling paint and repaint exterior surfaces as needed.

9)   Replace or repair broken/ damaged fencing.

The Village has a nuisance ordinance.  As a matter of civic pride and community respect, maintaining clean, safe, and sanitary property, the Village is making this personal request to all of its citizens to inspect their property and take immediate steps to remedy any violation of our nuisance ordinance.

Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Village Hall.
